Besides the rumors of the 2007 honda civic hybrid problems, there are some problems that you have to be aware of. There are issues with the transmission and the engine. In addition, there is a problem with the tires.

  • Rupture of Air Bag Inflator
  • Issues with Transmission
  • Engine Problem
  • Abnormal Tire Wear
  • So What is The Main Problem of The Honda Civic Hybrid?

Rupture of Air Bag Inflator

Several drivers have died and others have been injured in Honda vehicles with defective airbags. While Toyota claims there have been no injuries in its vehicles, Honda says there have been two fatalities and four additional reports of ruptured airbag canisters.

The Takata inflators were part of a regional safety improvement campaign. The inflators were installed in approximately 12.9 million Honda and Acura automobiles in the United States. However, Takata has a history of making defective airbags that could be linked to at least 30 injuries. In addition, Takata has admitted that it has no idea what caused the inflators to malfunction.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet concluded its investigation into the incidents. The agency has received reports of three additional cases of ruptured airbag canisters, including one in India.

Issues with Transmission

Honda Civic Hybrid 2007

Several years ago, Honda Civic Hybrid owners were experiencing problems with their CVT transmission. Specifically, they were complaining of engines stalling, headlights not coming on, and other related issues. They also complained that their cars wouldn’t start.

Eventually, the company issued a recall for these models. The problem was a defective voltage converter. These converters relay power from the Integrated Motor Assist to the vehicle’s electrical components. Ultimately, the problem could lead to the front wheels locking up and causing an accident.

The problem is also related to the auto-idle stop feature, which shuts off the engine at a stop and restarts it when the brake pedal is released. When this happens, you’ll notice some vibrations and a small, annoying light on the tachometer.

This is a sign that your transmission is malfunctioning and you should take it to a qualified Honda dealership. A Honda technician can perform a scan for DTCs (detailed trouble codes) and a test drive to determine what is causing the problem.

Engine Problem

During the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid’s lifespan, it faced two major engine problems. Both of these were deemed major failures and both of which could lead to serious safety concerns and costly repairs.

The first is a faulty airbag inflator. This is a problem that plagued many of the Civic’s hybrid versions between 2005 and 2011. The problem is caused by a tendency of the inflators to rip apart and hurl sharp metal fragments at the driver. These fragments can pose a severe threat to drivers and passengers.

The second is a faulty transmission. The problems with this system are similar to the problems with fluid levels. If the system is malfunctioning, you can expect to experience an undercharging issue and a loss of acceleration. This will require costly repairs.

Abnormal Tire Wear

Having uneven tire wear is not something you want to experience. It can lead to premature tire failure and blowouts. This can cost you money and your safety.

If your Honda Civic has abnormal tire wear, you might want to take it to your local service center for inspection. The dealer should be able to tell you if it’s a good idea to have the tires aligned.

If you do decide to have your vehicle repaired, you will be able to get some reimbursement for the repair costs. However, you have to act quickly. If you don’t file your claim in a timely manner, you could lose out on your money.

If you have been experiencing excessive tire wear, your dealer will likely suggest that you have your tires rotated. The reason is that improper alignment can lead to premature wear and can cause a vehicle to pull to one side.

So What is The Main Problem of The Honda Civic Hybrid?

Despite the Civic Hybrid’s reputation for reliability and low emissions, there have been a number of problems with this car. Honda has acknowledged the problems with the 2006-2008 models and has worked to improve them. The problem involves software updates that limit the amount of power the electric motor can provide.

In February 2014, Consumer Reports discovered a significant rate of battery failure in 2009-2010 models. Honda acknowledged the issue and issued a technical service bulletin, asking owners to bring their cars in for the software to be reprogrammed.

While Honda has not yet confirmed how many of the 36,656 vehicles affected have had a replacement battery, it is likely that a majority have had it under warranty. The batteries are covered for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
